Dermatologists know what a huge impact skin disease can have on your life.  Early accurate diagnosis and treatment can bring about an excellent improvement in quality of life even for incurable conditions such as eczema.  Our dermatologists are able to diagnose and treat most skin conditions, including conditions of the nail, scalp and genitals, not just Eczema.

Eczema Overview

Eczema and dermatitis mean the same thing: itchy red inflammation and swelling of the skin which may occasionally blister.  There are many causes of eczema including allergy (atopic eczema), irritant or contact allergic, age-related, or drug-induced.  The most important issue is to assess how big an impact the eczema is having on your life.  If it is causing discomfort, weeping, loss of sleep, missing work or difficulty in forming personal relationships then it is important that your eczema is treated as soon as possible.

Eczema Treatment options

The basis for treating eczema is to remove irritants or allergens which may worsen it (particularly soap-based products).  Regular moisturizing with either creamy or oily emollients is vital, and the application of topical anti-inflammatory creams such as cortisone or protopic is usually a mainstay of therapy.  Steroid tablets can be very useful in the short term and for longer term treatment, ultraviolet light or stronger tablets may be necessary.

Remember, although many skin conditions are not curable, eczema can certainly be greatly improved with the appropriate treatment.  See our before and after images showing how treatment can render the skin clear.  There is no need to suffer with your eczema.  Get in touch and let one of our consultants treat your condition.
